My grand daughter was up last week and we were outside with the big Dob. She is very bright 8 year old with the reading level of an 11 year old and she had control of the 10" and was finding stuff directly off Stellarium.
So I have found a home for my starter scope, the 114\900 Blue Newt to go to. I'm mounting it onto a simple AZ tripod I have and it's her birthday in about 6 weeks.
I'm just short of an EP or two in the right range. I have a reasonable 10mm Plossl that will go with it but nothing in the 15-20mm useful range. Just asking if anyone has something in that range they no longer use at a reasonable price. Otherwise I'll check TradeMe or might have to chuck in my 25 mm Plossl which gives a nice widefeild effect similar to the 20mm GSO SV but not at he same mag.
Lucky wee girl, they live out in the country with awesome dark skies far from LP. I might just have to go down and give some lessons. Take a scope or two of course ! Her dad is awesome with it and her too. Hopefully a budding astrochick one day.
