I think it's usually referred to as "Synta-Glue".. I suspect GSO R&P focusers also have the same type of thick grease in them since they have a very stiff action, I was going to clean mine out but now that it's motorised I don't notice (although no doubt it will be chewing thru the battery faster than a nice light action would).
