Astronomy/Space Books

Understanding Space: An Introduction to Astonautics
(hardcover, 774 pages)
I purchased this book after noticing that it was a required text for several popular tertiary courses on Astronomy/Astrophysics. I read it from cover to cover (excluding the undergraduate questions/exercises), and learnt heaps. Very informative about rocket technologies, launching/managing satellites, orbits, planning missions, space systems engineering. Also has plenty on space technology history and brief profiles on lots of actual space missions.

The Next Step: Finding and Viewing Messier's Objects
(hardcover, 352 pages)
I've owned several Messier books, and this is easily the best I have owned. It is a charming mix of history (about Charles Messier and his contemporaries), messier observing advice, and excellent info and images for all of the Messier objects.
