Why not try a few of those that are out there, either at a dealer (Bintel maybe?) or at a star party.
I agree, the 100+ seems like the choice. And not necessarily an apo, most of my Ha is done with an old Zeiss achromat, good optics, but an achromat. W/L with the Herschel should be the same.
