I understand that from a team point of view having two cars in pole battling is a potential risk of losing them both but they are racers after all. It's built in their DNA. They want to win. Fair enough he copes some flack for disobeying a direct 'order' but c'mon. He's faster and he wants to win.
There were similar incidents between Prost and Senna in the 90s. Remember when Senna took both cars out of the race on the first turn after the grid? That's how it works.
