I did what you are asking as well in the beginning. In my case I had an early Leica digital P&S, with a fixed lens, which moved in and out on startup, and when zoomed. It was simplest to use an old 1.25" to 2" adaptor, and mount a solid "L" shaped bracket to the adaptor. The camera was mounted on the bottom side of the L shaped piece. So then, turn the camera on, select the correct distance from the eyepiece (which fitted inside the 1.25" section of the adaptor) and focus.
Rudimentary, but in those days it was all I could afford anyway. I did many a solar and lunar shot with it. Worked like a charm. Ah the good old days.
