Not entirely sure but for me generally Gain = Grain, and as the transparency was poor I had to have the gain up around 40-50%. Might have pushed the sharpening a little too much as well
. Unless the seeing's fantastic I always find it's a compromise between over sharpening to reveal detail which unfortunately brings out more noise as well.
