I just bought a used Polarie (hasn't arrived yet) and had to buy a ballhead to put on it. I looked up the Velbon Polarie ball heads and was a bit concerned about their load capacity for my 30D and f/2.8 wide lens. I've ordered a Vanguard SBH-30 to attach between Polarie and camera (

I have a heavy duty Manfrotto ball head that came with a 058 tripod that I'll use on the base.
One thing I like about the Polarie tripod is the multi-angle central column since that presumably could let you move the centre of gravity depending on your load. But you can get other tripods with the same feature.
