I'm no expert, but there is one piece of advice I give, it took me ages to twig to it, but in my case it changed the game heaps. Get a mono webcam. In my case, when I had a PST, I used a DMK41 sized chip, but as John said, something like the DMK21 will do just fine.
For ages I tried the DSLR style cameras I have, and also a Philips 900 webcam. Being colour they didn't work like I expected. Mono though? Makes it so easy.
You could find that you need a shorter 1.25" nose-piece as well, so bear this in mind.
Try a mono webcam, and no barlow for a start, get an image, and go from there. Adding a barlow can come later.
Post what you get, that way we can point you in the right direction.
The humble PST is capable of excellent solar images, and NO, it does not have to be modded, hammer not required!!.
