I haven't checked it out but it sounds like a version of "20 Questions"
This was a game show on radio years ago and there have probably been TV versions also.
20 questions asked in a logical fashion should solve 99.9999% of questions from a good dictionary or encyclopedia. Lets face it 2 to the 20th power gives a mammoth number of yes/no answers. The panel could only be stumped with very obscure items.
I would suspect that there have been a few computer programs that use this simple routine to sort through 2 to the 20th answers.
