One of the more confusing naming conventions .... the Russian Project 941 "Akula" ballistic-missile sub, that we know better as
Typhoon, should not be confused with the Russian Project 971 "Shchuka" attack sub that we know better as
Akula.
Personally, I think the Typhoon is butt ugly. My favourite looking sub would be the USN 688-class attack subs.
O-boats, particularly after the SWUP upgrade, were reasonably aesthetic, IMHO.
