I've always kept my scope set up when at star parties.
I cover first with a beach towel, then a cotton quilt then a reflective water proof Telegizmos cover.
Though that cover finally disintegrated. I'm making a new one out of a silver tarp now.
A heavy duty bin liner or three is also handy to have in your kitbag if you get hit with torrential rain.
