Jupiter Dec21 fair seeing

Hi
seeing was a lot better than expected - the 200hPa winds were still at about 50kts, but there was actually a bit of detail getting through!! - the image is not great, but it's OK for low altitude and this was easily the best seeing for a fair while. Really pleased to get another image of this part of the planet - the NEB is quite a chaotic place these days.

I tried a few 3-minute-per-colour AVIs at 30Hz to test the video derotation feature in WINJUPOS but, although the feeds looked OK, the flickery seeing messed up the stacking at the lower framerate and it was a waste of time. I salvaged the attached image using a combination of the best 60Hz R, G and B runs, but they were not from the same sequence. WINJUPOS allowed RGB combination from data runs taken over 10 minutes apart, which is a very handy feature.

The dispersion corrector tidied up the blue channel - am coming to the conclusion that, although it is a PITA to align on a Newtonian and it changes the imaging scale with typical Barlows, it is worth having at ~34 degrees altitude, even when the seeing is only fair.

Thanks for looking. Ray

300mm Newtonian on EQ6, TV 3x Barlow, ADC, Astronomik filters, DMK21-618, AS!2 stacking, Registax6 sharpening, WINJUPOS RGB combination, GIMP tidy up.
