Oh, you'll probably be able to go as long as a couple of minutes exposure time, if you align it really well by doing a good drift align.
If I were you I would head to your nearest Astro Society and get along to one of their Star Parties. You'll be able to see a variety of imaging set ups while they're working, and ask any questions you like about them.
