For whisky lovers out there, this has been judged by Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2013 (released recently) as the best single malt Scotch whisky of the year, and in 2012 was rated the best whisky in the world, bar none.
Having now had a dram, these are my tasting notes:
Old Pulteney 21 Years
Age: 21 YR
Alcohol: 46%
Rating: 94/100
Colour: Maple syrup
Nose: Fruit and honey, Christmas pudding, dried apricots, caramel, ripe bananas, grapes, barley, pepper, vanilla, pencil shavings, light licorice
Taste: Sweet pepper, fruit salad, maple syrup, caramel, aniseed, sherry, lovely long sweet pepper finish
Balance: beautiful combination of flavours where none dominates. Perfectly balanced.
Just the trick to celebrate 43 completed trips around the solar system!
