Astrophotography with Nikon D5100

Hello all

Absolute beginner in need of simple step by step instructions on using the above camera for astrophotography. Its my wife's camera, and I have rarely used even a compact camera, and am intimidated by the DSLR. With the camera I got 2 kit lenses, the 18-55 and 55-300mm zooms.

The camera came with no manual and I understand from searching the net I need to set camera to manual focus, set widest aperture, set ISO at around 3200, focus on infinity, set a remote timer for the length of exposure required (am aware of the 600/lens width rule of thumb!) and take pictures in raw format....

I'm technologically incompetent (!), so am hoping someone can give me simple step by step instructions on how to set the parameters as described.

I searched and cannot find an idiot proof instruction guide!

Any help is greatly appreciated - I'll be in a dark site over Christmas and would love to give astrophotography a go....
