I'm with you on that one Peter. I hate having to deal with caps, particular in the dark. Using a 2" -1 1/4" Televue eyepiece I once left a clear cap on the 1 1/4" part and put the eyepiece into a 2" diagonal and wondered why my images looked out of focus and fuzzy. It took me about half a minute to realise what I had done. My clueless astro moment

Now, I have a waterproof /dustproof case with machined high density foam inserts that fit my eyepieces exactly without caps (note finger access has been provided for). This arrangement is great, no annoying or lost caps.

I am in the process, albeit slowly, of having all my accessories put into these cases with machined inserts. Quite cheap to do (see "Show us your equipment!' at top of equipment page for my thread on cases).
