Brisbane's First Observatory

"Sir Thomas’s first observatory was completed in 1808 at his estate in Brisbane Glen, near Largs in Ayrshire, Scotland.
It was one of only two Scottish observatories then, and was the best equipped." John Bonsor, Scotland

"In the Brisbane Glen, there is another smaller pillar in the field near to his observatory,
which was originally a device through which the 3 Sisters could be sighted, and due north established."

The 3 sisters were used to find due south from Brisbane's observatory, not due north.
