As a lad at the time obsessed with all things astronomical and electronic, the voyager launches was one of the things I remember being extremely excited about. I mean, it was nuclear powered, packed with computers.. for the "Thunderbirds generation" what wasn't there to love?

I had seen the photos from the Pioneer 10 & 11 probes, and this promised to be even better.

Many will remember that, at the time, planetary imaging from the surface with film was sooo bad, worse even in many cases than actually looking through the eyepiece! The images returned by these probes was truly breathtaking.

How far things have come. Thank you Suzy for reminding me we are truly living in a golden age!
