Imaging scopes are designed for:
- large flat image circle
- good illumination edge to edge (big secondary on a newt)
- reasonable optical performance across the whole field
Visual scopes are designed for good on-axis performance and contrast (smaller secondary).
You can certainly use an imaging newt for visual but it will be more difficult to collimate well (due to fast f ratio) and the contrast and on-axis performance won't be as good as it could be.
Of course, advertising something as an imaging scope doesn't necessarily make it one. Check the specs...
