DP this can happen if you have the histo-stretch turned on when you stack in registax. You should probably make sure that's not turned on.

And when you start applying wavelets, if the image starts to burn out in the middle then just open the brightness/contrast controls and back the brightness off to -10 or -20 and that ought to fix it.

I think the problem is that the brightness can easily get clipped, because histo-stretching changes your image so that the brightest pixel is 255, but when you apply wavelets then some pixels get *brighter* still, and these have nowhere to go.,
