Your current EQ5 mount should give you much longer than 3 seconds. Did you try adjusting the worms to get rid of backlash? - could improve things a fair bit. Is there any way that you could get someone with mechanical experience to look at it and see if anything is obviously out of kilter? - your problems seem much worse than they should be and it is possible that something fixable is at the bottom of this.
