Much the same way that a pen friend isn't a "real" friend? Or the friends made in the IIS community yet haven't met in person aren't "real" friends?
While it is true that the majority of the "friends" one has on FB couldn't even be classified as passing acquaintances, through shared experiences and common interests inevitably you become closer to some people you meet online. What you are saying is insulting to those who have made true online friendships through the medium.
