Although not applicable to all brands the price difference with respect to Celestron products relates to dealer/distribution rights/contracts and hence why Celestron products seem to cost more here than in the US even though the exchange rate would suggest otherwise. Conversely Skywatcher doesn't have such a big presence in the US (ironically who now own Celestron). The trick is to buy things under $1000 from overseas if they reflect a substantial saving and you have confidence in the quality of their manufacture so as not to rely on warranty from a local dealer (who typically don't honour warranty from products purchased o'seas). The reason I mention 1k is that is the magic cut-off point where customs and duty kick in.
