Mitchell Falls Moonlit Timelapse

Ken Duncan and I were camped out on a ledge overlooking the stunning Mitchell Falls, with the roaring sound of the waterfall echoing in our ears and the beautiful display completely visible even at midnight thanks to a very bright almost full Moon.

This timelapse was captured over 4 hours, from midnight-4am as we tried in vain to sleep. The shadow creeping across the falls is from the Moon setting lower in the West. You can see towards the end of the timelapse, the whole scene is almost dark once the Moon set.

The timelapse images were captured with a Canon 40D, 17-70mm lens @ 17mm f/4, ISO1600, 30s exposures.

All of the images were stacked into a single image, which you can see below. Although it looks like a daylight shot, you can see the star trails at the top of the frame showing that it’s definitely taken at night!
