Hi Stephen,

My pier will be 1.7m including top plates. The reason for the tall pier is that my observatory (still to build) will be raised 600mm above ground.

Pier will be mounted onto the existing 250mm thick concrete, the concrete was originally poured for two 5000ltr rainwater tanks, I have since emptied one and move the other. The observatory will be a roll off roof.

The pier construction will be made up of a base plate (600 x 600 x 20mm) pier will be 250mm hollow square with 9mm wall, top plates will be 300 x 300 x 20mm, pier gusseted to base plate using 10mm plate. Will be filled with sand once installed.
