It struck me as something George Lucas could have made (Edit: no, strike that, it's too gory for Lucas). There are quite a few holes in the plot and, several times, it left me thinking, "why didn't they just ..."? I guess I forgot to suspend my disbelief as others suggested. Stunning visually, of course, and it answered a couple of questions hanging over from the Alien franchise.
There are shortcomings, but it's enjoyable nonetheless. It is sci-fi after all.

I am glad to see someone else thinks the same. There was no continuity from the ending of this movie to the first Alien movie, unless I missed something. In the Alien movie the "big dude" was found at the controls with a big hole in his chest, in Prometheus......you know. Probably me just be anal!
