Have had a grand old day (with a bit of a headache) so far. It was actually on my birthday last year, when my (SKA) aunt asked how I'd never heard of this huge project Australia were campaigning for... then I was even more incredulous when she told me that people go to "Star Parties" (!) where they stay up all night (!!) and you aren't allowed to use any lights (!!!). I was most shocked to discover that you needed to be organised enough to arrive during the day with enough time to set up before settling in for a long clear night
That birthday lunch was actually the moment when my interest in astronomy was rekindled, and I think my life is much richer for the people I've met and experiences I've had over the last year. You're all such a kind, fun bunch, I'm not sure I could have asked for better! Meanwhile, I find it hilarious to think back to my incredulity a year ago, only to be a bit of a star party veteran now
