Hi Rob,
When I have hooked my laptop up to my SynScan GoTo Dob the RS-232 connection has been successful, as long as I used the correct port and the scope was already aligned. I have not had to visit any special areas of the menu to get the scope to follow instructions sent from the laptop.
Have you tried one of the other ports?
