The Southern Cross in 1980

Hello everyone!!

During Sunday, as it rained here in Brisbane, I decided to go through all the old 35mm slides that I had from my Uni days back in the late 70's, early 80's.

How many pictures of rocks can one student take? Well as luck would have it, in amongst all those geological slides I found 3 star trail pictures that I'd taken from the backyard of the family home in Rockdale, Sydney.

Getting a friend to scan them, I realised that one of the images was of the Southern Cross and so I decided to try and process it. The light pollution was terrible but I did the best I could to remove it. I was pleasantly surprised with the result and noticed that if I played around with curves I could get some nice star colours.

So I present to you one of my first ever astrophotographs taken back in 1980 and processed 32 years later!!

Cheers,
Mario
