Hi

There are lots of quite good astro pictures around taken by people on nothing better than a LX 90 on a wedge. Technique is what is required as for any photography.

For a dedicated GEM mount the HEQ5 Pro will do about the same as a wedge with the 8" OTA from a LX90. but would be much better with a smaller 80mm refractor.

The next GEM would be an EQ6. There are many of these around with a variety of OTA's although most tend to go for 80mm refractors they will do quite a reasonable job with the smaller lighter SCT's. The EQ6 is considered by most as the minimum for serious astro photography

After this there are some very good mounts such as G11's but costs will become more significant. Spend your money on the best mount you can get. An average OTA will do a better job on a good mount than a superdoopa OTA on an underated mount.
