The pier only adds hight so a longer refractor can be used without having to sit on the ground .
I still have mine because its a sweet grab and go mount , it used to hold my sold 150mm f/5 refractor (only just ) , but holding my also sold 80mm Aplanat seen here , its perfect .
I think for the price these cant be beat .
As flash knows ,, they will hold a 127mm triplet , but only just .
