Transit of Venus. Public viewing
As Astronomy educators, the June 6th Transit is a great opportunity to encourage everyone to actually witness this event rather than read about it on the news. If you have the resources to filter and magnify the sun safely the why not set up in a public place just like sidewalk astronomy! Maybe the local school, community centre, shopping centre or just the street corner.Enrol your event on the ABC "big diary" and get an interview on local radio. If the weather stays fine the response will be huge. We will be at our local school in Ocean Shores first up then down to the local park in Brunswick Heads for the general public. We will have 3 scopes, 2 x binos, eyepiece projection and HD images on a big screen. We have come a long way since Jeremiah Horrocks!
