I wanted to keep price under $2k. The Lunt is available under that price but with only a 6mm blocking filter, and from what I had learned if I wanted to do some solar imaging you need at least a 10mm blocking filter.
Also the SM comes with a dedicated finder which the Lunt doesn't.
In addition I had looked through an SM a couple of times and been impressed, so it was partly a case of I knew what I would get.
