AR1429 sun spot in white light
Hello,
Here is a nice portrait of AR1429, a sun spot which first appeared on March 2 and then erupted on March 5 with a major X1-class flare, sending a storm of plasma and charged particles towards the Earth which sparked some sensationalist reporting in the popular media.
In the end, the CME missed the Earth but from the gallery of photos I have seen on various astronomy sites, it did produce some amazing auroral displays.
This image was taken from our backyard in Brisbane on 10th March. Despite an invitingly optimistic jet stream map, the atmospheric conditions were quite challenging so I had to keep pausing the recording of the AVI, in order to harvest the few fleeting moments of better seeing, to produce this final image.
Cheers
Dennis
