Got some spare time recently to revist my Lovejoy photos from last Christmas. Managed to align and stack the two days' photos into one, and come out with the image below. It shows how the comet changed over a mere 24 hours, from Dec. 25 to 26. Tail length grew by 3 degrees, together with quite a bit of change in structure.

Maybe when the next big comet visits, weather permitting, it would be an intersting project to shoot with precise planning, to obtain a "comet sequence" by intervals of days instead of minutes/hours. If clear skies last for up to more than 3 nights, I'm sure the result would be pretty decent. It would be really lovely to see how the comet changes along the sequence.
One addtional shot here showing the interesting thin streaming structure inside the headless coma (is that a 'coma' at all?). Does anybody know whether the comet truely disintegrated? Or did it simply exhaust all its materials?
