It seems like we are both at the same stage of understanding the mysteries of PS , I have been using a Jerry Lodrigis tutorial which is helping but I think I need PS for thickies.
With your focus problem , can you use the software to focus with either brightest pixcel or FWHM and then check the STi against that , sounds like its out of calibration.
