Philip,

I have no objection to use a Switching (Swithmode) PSU at all. One of the problems especially for DIY PSU's is the amount of spurious interference.

When using one it needs to be shielded from any potential radiation into the components that potentially cause the mount to become inaccurate.

I use a switching PSU on my Bluetooth unit that is stuck to the side of the mount and have no problems. The input of this PSU is using Mount power as well and nothing is going back into the mount either.

Transformer power may not be efficient but it is always a safe bet.
