Children, fair enough, but any adult that hears stories about the world ending on a particular date who doesn't dismiss it out of hand, is a sandwich short of a picnic.
Physical phenomena like the apparent size of objects, these are fair game, and non-scientific people wanting more info is fine, to be encouraged even, but once again, end of the world stories, see above.
