The Hurricanes were a better machine. Get shot up, land, patch it with Irish linen, back in the air. The Spitfire, being all metal, had to go to the shop to get fixed. At least that is what a good friend of mine (now deceased) said, as he flew Hurricanes during the Battle for Britain.
But, I agree, the Spitfire is a beautiful looking machine.
RIP Peter, long gone, but definitely not forgotten!
