Amazing detail with just a camera
When I was photographing comet Lovejoy yesterday morning, I also took some random pictures of the milky way using just the camera (no telescope).
After reviewing the images this morning, it is amazing just how much detail there actually is in the pictures. Some of the objects which are visible include:
* Globular Clusters;
* Nebulas;
* Open Clusters; and
* Double stars;
The attached picture is a 20 second exposure at F4, ISO 3600. I used stellarium to identify some of the objects which are annotated.
The original image was High Res (5184x3456) however I have scaled it back to 800x533 in order to create a small file size for the internet. As such, the original has alot more detail.
For people that are interested in astronomy but do not have a telescope, there is alot that can be seen with just a camera.
I also had fun identifying the objects using stellarium which was challenging but a great way of learning the objects and their relative locations / sizes.
