Canon T ring fault

One day I will get around to doing some astrophotos. Not much done in the past year since obtaining my 50D. One problem I have is that the T ring that fits to my 2" adaptor will not lock properly. The detent is to big and rounded, so that the lens does not lock in position. It can easily be turned without pressing the release. I bought this T ring on ebay some time back and it came in a celestron box. I am now thinking that someone disposed of it because of this very problem.

Question 1 is - What is the best brand of T ring for the Canon EOS if I buy another, or have I just got a bad Celestron one?

Question 2 is -can anybody suggest a repair? I am fairly sure this thing is aluminium so I cannot solder or braze the detent and then re-drill.

thanks for any replies
