I haven't seen any 16 inch ASA or OO AG images that are better than your 12 inch. I don't see any gain by going to 16 inch in that format.
Long focal length yeah but for widefield shots - its a bit like the 6 inch APO hitting the sweet spot.
16 inch is just more opportunity for flex issues and as you say needing a beefier mount. Hmmm a PMX probably would handle it. Its supposed to be able to handle a 14 inch Cassegrain.
