I was born and grew up in Canada.
Our nearest rellies were 800 miles away.
They were too tight to buy air fair and I always got stuck taking our English cousins to see them.
By Car.
Through the Rockies.
I don't care if I never see another snow-capped peak, glacier, forested hillside or prairie flatland again.
As well as being mostly cold, Canada's a little boring really.
living next to the US gives one a huge inferiority complex.
We WANT to be interesting, but it's a bit too much like being an American to put in the effort.
In contrast, I reckon Australians are about the most naturally interesting lot around.
Canada has the world's most boring national anthem as well.
There are so many "We stand on guard for's..." that its easy to forget why you are standing on guard in the first place.
Though Canadians ARE polite and generally pretty nice. Everyone says this no matter where you go.
When I was in Guatemala in 1981 we thought we were going to be killed by some guerilla blokes with guns we'd stumbled on while trying to find some fool bird my companion wanted to "twitch".
When they found out we were Canadian all they wanted to do was be our best friends.
They even offered us a couple of Khalashikovs in case we ran into some 'Yankee pig-*******".
Oh well. Boring but nice.
That's us.
