IMHO, any warm clothing like this is definitely the way to go. I can't comment on the walking sleeping bags you mention, but my freezer suit is the only reason that I have spent many more hours under dark skies than I would have if I didn't use one. They are well worth the money, and from memory they cost about the same.
Anyone who has visited Queensland Astrofest and/or Leyburn where we see temperatures down to -5 deg between June and August would have seen many of us in our "Michelin Man' suits over the years still out and observing long after others who weren't as warm, retire for the night.
