Oh - the memories!! We haven't been there since 1987 but I still remember it clearly. In those days you could camp near the gorge entrance but there were no facilities, not even a toilet. The rim walk didn't exist but you could go up the 'lost city' side and to the pool above the falls. We were there for a few days and did a few walks. We followed the creek upstream and got to places that most people don't see - the benefit of being young, fit and adventurous. We also went up the other valley that joins in just below the gorge. I remember that there was a butcher bird in the tree near our tent that sat there and repeated the same call without pause for 4 days. Despite the beauty of the voice I was getting ready to strangle the little bugger.
