Bye bye UKS 1

UKS 1 has long been the holy grail of globular cluster observers, the dimmest known in our Milky Way galaxy. Well, it's time to move this old fossil out, there are new kids on the block!

ESO has just announced the discovery of two new MW globular clusters, VVV CL001 and VVV CL002, both considerably fainter than UKS 1.

This brings the total known to 158. Attached is an ESO image of VVV CL001 - it's not the bright one on the right (which, co-incidentally, is UKS 1!), it's the tiny dim one at left.

Cheers -
