Thanks everyone for your responses. It's given me some more to think about, and probably confirmed that (at least for now) I don't have the energy or motivation to do serious AP.
I like Poita's suggestion of getting a DSLR (I've been trying to convince myself to buy one anyway for terrestrial photography
) and using that for some astro shots, so I might try that when I can spare the $.
