If this were the case, then other labs are probably making the same errors also … in which case, eventually progress will be made not just by the CERN OPERA folk … but also by others doing the same elsewhere .. which would be a productive outcome !

.. So, this has been measured before !
One can't really dismiss any of the possibilities until the results can be reproduced (or otherwise), elsewhere, within the same or better uncertainty margins.
