Extinction and Transparency, or, "Brisbooine"

I couldn't resist! Composite image of a smoky sunset in Brisbane. With the Sun almost on the celestial equator (ie near equinox), the angle the two suns make with the vertical is about the same as the latitude of the location where the images were taken (27.5 degrees). Refraction by the atmosphere actually makes the lower sun appear higher than it actually is.
The lower sun is also darker and redder as the light has travelled through more of the light-scattering smoke.
Both images taken 4 minutes apart using a with a Canon EOS 550D with 55-250mm IS at 250mm f/7.1, handheld, and overlayed on each other.
